One year ago, I had the honor of photographing Chase + Ady’s microwedding in Crested Butte, Colorado. They had a beautiful and adventurous Rocky Mountain wedding, and I had become fast friends with the both of them during wedding planning and after celebrating together. When Ady reached out about wanting to do a photoshoot for their first anniversary, to say I was excited would have been an understatement.

We played around with a few ideas for their anniversary session, eventually landing on a weekend trip to Marfa to explore the iconic artisan town in west Texas. When they unexpectedly had the opportunity to buy a house a few weeks prior to our photoshoot, we switched things up and decided to use the photoshoot to commemorate the current chapter of their lives: new homeowners!
I traveled to Amarillo the night before the in-home photoshoot, and we met the following morning. They had just moved into their charming 1920s home, and it was so fun to see the house and hear about their experience finding and eventually buying their first home. With east-facing windows in their cozy living room, we used the morning light to get creative. Ady and Chase cuddled up on the couch, and I stepped back for a photojournalist approach to document the two spending time reminiscing on their first year of marriage. They enjoyed a brunch picnic with donuts and paged through their wedding album that we had made just one year prior.
After this, we recouped to switch things up a bit, photographing the beginning of their home refresh: their first new painting. They had chosen the soft blue bedroom color before I had arrived, and started decorating the walls with fun illustrations. This quickly became painting each other’s arms and hands, which just made it all the more fun.
Their home photoshoot was a new creative challenge for myself, and I could not be happier with the end result. Not only was it a blast for all three of us, but it also really showcases their milestones for the first year of marriage. Congratulations on your first anniversary Ady + Chase, here’s to many more!
